Performance
International Visiting Artists: Argentina

Our approach to performance is always linked with the feminine, to life and love.

Gabriela Alonso and Nelda Ramos

A co-presentation by Hamilton Artists Inc., aluCine and FADO Performance Art Centre.

This special evening includes a screening of performance and video compilations of works made by European and South and Central American artists programmed from the Zonadearte Gallery archives in Quilmes, Argentina; live solo performances from Gabriela Alonso and Nelda Ramos, and an informal Q&A period, followed by a reception with the artists.

Gabriela Alonso and Nelda Ramos work with materials related to their personal experiences in Argentina, and their encounters with the world as women. These materials include celebratory communal actions with balloons, the reinvention of symbols of militarism found in children’s games, the use of icons of domesticity such as milk, and other resistant references to violence against women, children and animals.

Performance Yellow

This fragrance opens us to the question, has the show started? It's winter, the theatre is colder than the street and the room is filled with people and all their winter smells: wet faux leather, down, too much shampoo, and beer breath. The atmosphere is a trickster. Am I late, am I early?
