International Visiting Artists: Singapore

Amanda Heng
Kai Lam
Lee Wen

FADO Performance Art Centre is pleased to present an evening of performance from Singapore’s most influential contemporary performance artists, a cross section of generations and approaches. From participatory to material based – the work these three artists traverses a range of approaches, often incorporating social and political commentary.

Often audience participatory in nature, Amanda Heng’s work mixes eastern and western values, traditions and gender roles. Kai Lam’s performance works are created in response to urban pluralistic society. And finally, Lee Wen’s performances and installations expose and question the ideologies and value systems of individuals, as well as social structures.

Amanda Heng, Kai Lam and Lee Wen make their stop in Toronto in the midst of a North American tour which includes stops in Québec to perform at LeLieu and New York City to perform at Grace Space.

Performance Yellow

This fragrance opens us to the question, has the show started? It's winter, the theatre is colder than the street and the room is filled with people and all their winter smells: wet faux leather, down, too much shampoo, and beer breath. The atmosphere is a trickster. Am I late, am I early?
