Walk-And-Talk: The Podcast accompanies a performance series of the same name which took place from 2024–2025. The performance series asked invited artists to investigate two of the foundational gestures of the performance art vocabulary—walking, talking—through performances and discursive interventions that explore their intrinsic mutual imbrication.

In this accompanying podcast series, hosts by Francesco Gagliardi and Julian Higuerey Nunez, invite local artists, researchers, and other creative folk to go on a walk and talk about the ways that walking informs their practices. Each episode is the length of a short walk, no edits, just walking and talking.

Since its opening in November 2011, the space Peras de Olmo – ARS CONTINUA (curated and founded by Graciela Ovejero Postigo) has maintained a firm commitment to performance art research, fostering the production and presentation of new or recontextualized works, accompanied by open conversations between artists and audiences, and systematically documented all events through audiovisual media in order to expand the cognitive field generated by the practice of performance-art. Through these integrated processes, we contribute to the organic and immediate historicization of performance or action art as a transdisciplinary practice that perceives itself within the contingent flow of the social and the personal, and that is fundamentally sustained and managed by its artists, globally.

In that same spirit, PerfoZine —a new series from Peras de Olmo/space in Buenos Aires—is launched as a publishing series that will circulate in digital format and as a limited-run print edition. The format draws on fanzines—literally: “magazines by and for fanatics/enthusiasts,” derived from “fan’s magazine”—which emerged from literary niches dedicated to the publication and circulation of content of specific group interest—the US, late 19th century—and which, over time, would come to be defined as a re-emerging format characterized by expansive creativity and serving as a catalyst for the expression and circulation of diverse content that has facilitated the rich evolution of intracultural, artistic, and political scenes—alternatives to the highly controlled mainstream media of major publications.

The first issue of this series is linked to “p e r F O R M i n g,” an exhibition of solo performances featuring Canadian artists Shannon Cochcrane and John G. Boehme, as part of the curatorial series Open field/campo abiertO – Laboratorio de Acción. Rosembaun, who produced the texts that, together with a selection of photographs of the actions performed, now constitute the phantasmal body of the performances illustrated—both as a literary body/action, selectively and complementarily.

This issue of Performance Research asks what can be learned from how theatre and performance makers have engaged with the Moon in plays, performances, dance, installations, video work and other creations. Performance art unfolds within a fragile space shaped by encounter, the body, and risk. This discipline engages conditions of presence in which gestures are inscribed within communal, historical, and affective dynamics. It is from this perspective that the Rencontre internationale d’art performance (RiAP) in Québec continues, in 2026, its work of attentiveness to practices that activate, shift, and reinvent the modalities of performance art. Since its origins, RiAP has been constituted as a nodal space where local, national, and international practices resonate with one another. This edition reaffirms this commitment by foregrounding approaches that interrogate the persistence of gestures, the transmission of ethos, and the ways the body is inscribed within the social sphere.

For 40 years, BLACK MARKET INTERNATIONAL has connected performance artists from around the world. The collective has been active globally ever since, organizing festivals, giving workshops, supporting the performance art scene, and significantly shaping it. The performance and resulting exhibition makes this long-standing artistic practice visible while simultaneously opening up new opportunities for encounters.

The focus is on direct interaction in local spaces, as well as immediate communication and discussion. What place does humanity occupy in the present? Hardly any other art form can bring this question to life and spark discussion as directly as performance art. In light of democratic challenges, AI, new power politics, and climate change, this discussion must be conducted directly, from person to person, also through art.

The artists will be present during the installation and opening period. They will leave the museum space and take the performance art to various locations in public spaces.
The aim is not only to present performance art, but to experience it together. A space for encounter and direct communication will be created. Visitors can experience how art can become the starting point for questions, conversations, and new perspectives. You are invited to engage with an art form that cannot be viewed in isolation: performance arises in the here and now, between artist and audience – as an energy of encounter, exchange and shared discovery.

This position is a combined artist residency and gallery internship, designed for an emerging artist who has recently graduated from their studies. The successful applicant will split their time between working in the studio and working as an arts administrator. As part of the residency, the successful candidate will develop a body of work and give a public artist talk. Written by Erin Shields, To a Flame is an explosive theatrical feast of image and language that pulls us deep into a Victorian Gothic Horror. This groundbreaking work intertwines American Sign Language and English with vibrant movement and live music into a haunting, multi-sensory performance for Deaf and hearing audiences. Featuring celebrated Deaf performer and cultural leader Dawn Jani Birley, internationally-renowned director Josette Bushell-Mingo, and vivid text by Governor General Award-winning playwright Erin Shields, with the support of the company.

For this issue, Esse arts + opinions invites authors to examine the complexities, shifts, and paradoxes of the idea of home, and to explore the concept of the house, with all its familiarity and instability. Whether it is examined as a metaphor for the body, a manifestation of economic and social volatility, or the archive of a life, the house is both a concrete space that provides shelter and a more abstract figure that is not limited to the walls around us. Under what conditions does a structure become a house? How can a dwelling be transformed into a home? How should we understand the often-painful experience of house hunting, of having to reconstruct a home, and relatedly, of leaving one house for another?

Rules of the Game: an Introduction to Task-based Performance and Art

The French conceptual artist Sophie Calle, whose projects are often led by her ‘rules of the game’ (a set of predetermined instructions), suggests that abiding by rules is ‘restful [and] a way of not to have to think – just be trapped in a game and follow it.’ Rule structures, directives and instructions restrain the artist’s choice and potentially bring something unforeseen and unpredictable to the creative process. The focus of this course is the critical and practical consideration of these creative constraints as we examine the practice of using task-led activities as a means to conceive and compose performance. Weekly discussions and practical experiments are informed by selected critical reading and examples of case study artists. Each participant will be invited and guided to make weekly performance responses to the material in their own time, and these responses will be uploaded to the ECC Performance Art Workroom, a virtual classroom where they are accessible to the course participants and discussed in class. Participants will gain a critically and creatively informed understanding of the practical philosophies that underpin task-based performance art.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Colette Copeland is an interdisciplinary visual artist based in Granbury, Texas. Inspired by Dada and Fluxus, her artistic practice combines personal narratives, history, and contemporary culture using a variety of media including video, photography, sound, performance, printmaking and sculptural installation. Her performance videos utilize experimental narrative strategies to map the complexities of human and non-human relationships. Over the past 34 years, Copeland’s work has been featured in 40 solo exhibitions and 170 group exhibitions and festivals across 35 countries. She holds a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from Syracuse University and has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas.

We invite artists to submit a performance art registration video to be screened on 6 October 2026 at WORM, Rotterdam, as part of the RESIDUE Performance Art Workgroup programme. We are interested in recordings of live performances made for an audience rather than for the camera — one-shot or minimally edited documentation made by a professional videographer, invited documenter, tripod, or audience member. We are especially interested in videos that are usually considered documentation rather than autonomous video works, and in performances that took place in different contexts: galleries, art spaces, theatres, public spaces, and beyond.

Videos preferably max. 20 minutes. Longer videos are welcome; we may select an excerpt.
