b. 1971, Switzerland
Claudia Bucher studied sculpture at the City & Guilds of London Art School and Fine Arts at the Lucerne School of Art and Design. Since 2001 she has been working as a freelance artist in the mediums of Performance Art, Installation, Drawing and Printmaking. Her performance process is focused on site specificity, using the performance space to situate her body in space as sculpture, and an experiment in how an action changes the relationship between the body and the surrounding environment. What results is a portrait of moments of transition and transformation – when beauty becomes ugliness, clean becomes dirty, and gentleness turns into aggression.
