FADO is pleased to present three new performance works from Sakiko Yamaoka. Her work is presented in the context of the 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art

Sakiko Yamaoka is a Japanese performance artist, and since 1990 her work has been presented and exhibited in Asia, Europe, and North America. Her work is elegant and often darkly humourous. About her work, Yamaoka says, "I define my art-works as sculptures depicting action and time and relationship between artist and audience, artist and materials, in which I attempt to create an example of the human condition."

Three performances by Sakiko Yamaoka

Best Place to Sleep
Between 2007 and 2012, Best Place to Sleep has been performed in various cities including: Tokyp, Warsaw, Boston, Zagreb and Toronto. In this intervention into public space, the artists (sometimes alone and sometimes wtih a group of participants) occupies space in banks and bank machine kiosks by lying down on the ground and attempting to take a short nap. The performance ends when the aritst is asked to leave the premises. Yamaoka will be performing this work in Toronto on October 27, at various locations, between 12pm-5pm with local participants. 

Wind From Sky
Sakiko Yamaoka will be performing a new work entited Wind From Sky during the 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art. 

Becoming a Plant
Yamaoka rounds out her time in Toronto by performing another public intervention entitled Becoming at Plant, at various lcoal flower shops and vareity store locations where flowers and plants are sold.
