Conny Nowe

Conny secretly learned to play drums in her Vancouver punk rock household’s basement when no one was home. She recorded and toured in the 80’s with Vancouver bands, Tin Twist, Junco Run and The Moral Lepers. Lured by the Toronto music scene she moved east in 1987 and developed a keen interest in traditional West African drumming and studied with Fred Kwasi Dunyo and performed with the Flaming Dono Drum and Dance Ensemble for 12 years. Conny also studied with jazz drummer Jim Blackley and played drums with the 1994 Juno nominee World Beat band, Mother Tongue, Laura Repo, Random Order and currently with The Ugly Bug Band. Conny also plays guitar with the Toronto Cajun Zydeco dance band, Swamperella and Mandolin with the Klezmer band The Horables.
