1. NEWS: Fado's long-time Performance Art Curator announces his departure

After 14 years at the helm of Fado Performance Inc., an organization that he co-founded in 1993, Paul Couillard has announced that he will leave his job as Performance Art Curator in July of 2007. "Running Fado has been a tremendous and life-transforming experience," said Couillard, "and I have been continually humbled by the generosity, intelligence and passion of the artists I have had the privilege to work alongside. Their visions have never failed to inspire me. I've decided that it's time for me to move on to new challenges, but I am proud of what Fado has achieved and confident that the organization is in good shape to continue serving performance artists."

Fado's President and co-founder, Bernice Lyons-Page, says of Couillard's departure: "Paul has done an incredible job, and of course we will be sad to see him leave. His vision, his knowledge and experience, his amazing dedication to helping artists achieve their ideas, have all been instrumental in building this organization. He's given Fado a profile not only in Toronto but around the world. And he has given performance art and the community as a whole a real gift."

Lyons-Page went on to note, "Paul announced his intentions to the Board several months ago, and it is a tribute to his sense of responsibility that he agreed to help us through a very carefully considered transition plan. We have gone through a period of succession planning, Board renewal, and re-examination of the organization's vision. In May, 2007 Fado will move into a public office space that we will be subletting from the Images Festival of Film, Video, Installation, Performance and New Media in Toronto's 401 Richmond Street building. We have revised Fado's staffing structure to Artistic /Administrative Director who will work with a Programming Committee and also a Special Projects Coordinator who will work to make our archives more accessible to the general public and to curators, scholars and the media. Our upcoming programming is as exciting as ever, and we look forward to continuing the Fado tradition of supporting provocative and innovative site-specific performance art projects. This is a very exciting moment in the evolution of the organization."
