1. EVENT: FADO Performance Art Centre presents Francesca Fini
Date: October 31, 2014; City: Toronto, Canada

Presented by FADO Performance Art Centre
In the context of the 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art
October 29 – November 2, 2014

Supported by the Istituto Italiano di Cultural in Toronto.

PERFORMANCE:
Friday, October 31
8 pm  //  $10 (PWYC)
Artscape Youngplace (180 Shaw Street, Toronto)

I was there
By Francesca Fini

I was there is a live art project where the traditional languages of documentary and mockumentary are subverted and updated, while blending with the surrealism of live media performance. In the performance the artist approaches the past of western civilization - and the one of my her own family - by digitally and lively inserting herself into historical pictures and movies. Fini sabotages the past in a metaphysical scenario that integrates live media, video projections and chroma key technology, and ends up loosing herself while becoming "part of the picture". It's an impossible encounter with the past, culture, and the family, in which space and time collapse into the ideal dimension of performance art.

PERFORMANCE ART DAILY (artist panel): Uncomfortable Physicalities

ABOUT FRANCESCA FINI

Her live works often address social and political issues, and are a mixture of lo-fi technology, homemade interaction design devices, and live audio and video. 2. EVENT: FADO Performance Art Centre presents Roberto de la Torre
Date: November 1, 2014; City: Toronto, Canada

Presented by FADO Performance Art Centre
In the context of the 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art
October 29 – November 2, 2014

PERFORMANCE:
Saturday, November 1
8PM  //  $10 (PWYC)
Artscape Youngplace (180 Shaw Street, Toronto)

Roberto de la Torre works with temporary and contingent elements, and his work is usually generated in the public sphere. Manifesting as ephemeral actions in the form of sculpture, architectural, and sensory experiences created through the use of different media, and often employing the collaboration of a large number of participants, de la Torre’s work is best understood as documentation of the transient. The focus of his work ranges from social issues that occur in the local context as well as a global context. A tension between the physical and the intellectual permeates the fabric of his work, and the notion of “social sculpture” is developed through complex negotiations of permissions and participation in each setting the work takes place.

4. EVENT: City of Women International Festival of Contemporary Art 2014
Date: October 2-12, 2014; City: Ljublijana, Slovenia; Source: City of Women

Between October 2nd and 12th, the 20th International Festival of Contemporary Arts – City of Women will take place at different venues in Ljubljana. This year's trans-disciplinary festival under the title Survival Tactics will focus on the working conditions of artists, the precariously employed and the self-employed in the world of arts and culture who are confronted with ever-more harsh conditions of work. This difficult environment particularly affects the sectors, where women account for the majority of the labour force, a fact empirically proven in Slovenia over recent years. After all, the quest for a 'winning' survival tactic has been a constant requirement for festivals too, and City of Women is anything but an exception is this respect.

The overture to the 2014 festival will be events (round table, the film programme in Slovenska Kinoteka, etc.) based around the festival's twentieth anniversary, held in September at different venues.

10. WORKSHOP: PAS / Venice International Performance Art Week
Deadline date: December 1, 2014; City: Venice, Italy; Source: BBB Johannes Deimling

PAS | Performance Art Studies is offering a new study format in the framework of the Learning Program of the VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK. With ‘critical reflection’ we will extend our offers providing a theoretical discourse on Performance Art as an integral part of performative practice and its processes.

“We learn differently when we are learning to perform than when we are learning to understand what is being communicated to us. Reflection enables us to correct distortions in our beliefs and errors in problem solving. Critical reflection involves a critique of the presuppositions on which our beliefs have been built.” [Jack Mezirow, How critical reflection triggers transformative learning]

During the studies participants have the unique opportunity to witness the whole 2nd VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK: seeing the exhibition, observing all live performances, meeting the artists, discuss and research what is presented with other like-minded people. Sharing our opinions and reflections and putting them into context will generate a vivid research on performative practice and help to understand complex structures and theories. Participants will mainly discuss, write, sketch, scribble, doodle, interview and document their views and shared opinions. These documents will be published at the end of the studies in an online publication.

PAS is very happy to have Francesco Kiais as a guest teacher for this new study format who will guide the participants together with BBB Johannes Deimling through the week and researches. (www.veniceperformanceart.org/index.php?page=126&lang=en)

Conditions:
The price for PAS #37 | ‘critical reflection’ is 150 Euro (100 Euro for former PAS participants). Participants are responsible for their accommodation, travel and food. To apply for the studies, please send an email with a CV and biography to: pas@bbbjohannesdeimling.de

11. EVENT: 2nd Venice International Performance Art Week
Date: December 13 to 20, 2014; City: Venice, Italy; Source: VestAndPage

2nd VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK
“Ritual Body - Political Body”

Palazzo Mora, Strada Nova, 3659, Venice, Italy
13 - 20 December 2014

Following the first edition “Hybrid Body - Poetic Body” that took place in December 2012 at Palazzo Bembo, the 2nd VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK will take place at Palazzo Mora in Venice from 13th to 20th December 2014 under the focus "Ritual Body - Political Body".

For the second edition with the focus “Ritual Body - Political Body” the 2nd VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK 2014 aims to investigate a wide range of concepts such as: art as a space for civil negotiation where human ethical values are the core; interconnectivity; political confrontation; utopia; ecological issues; social and individual conflicts and responsibilities, and how the self relates to them, at the same time concentrating on the fact that the presence of human beings in this world is always more than a temporary condition.

The communication that can be triggered between artists and the audience is an essential element. The topics addressed during the week will relate to the need to look at social relations and the lives of individuals with greater care. Due to the specificity of the theme of this second edition “Ritual Body - Political Body”, the live performances and works on display will also seek to provide reflection and further considerations on how to find meaningful mechanisms to foster positive change through contemporary art and culture in a clearly vital way.

The VENICE INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART WEEK wishes to enrich the highly renowned art scene in Venice with the audacious art form of performance art.
